Stuck Between Stations

@ St. Anthony Main Theater

Show Times Vary / $8.50

When was the last time we got to see Minneapolis represented as the hotbed of sexy independent cool that we know it to be and not some podunk outpost of regional accents and snow bound losers? Honestly, and sadly…almost never. So hats off to the refreshingly unaffected indie film Stuck Between Stations which was not only shot locally and named for a Hold Steady song, but also blessed with Josh Hartnett's appearance – sporting a fetching neck tattoo no less! It may just be the best ever cinematic representation of the magical joy of falling in love on a summer evening in Minneapolis. If you missed this little gem at the MSPIFF now’s your chance to catch it when it returns this week for a theatrical run. Friday's opening evening will be packed with activities and celebrations surrounding the release, so if you want to hob-nob with the cast and crew head over to the Aster Café at 6 p.m. for an informal reception prior to the 7p.m. screening. After the show join the gang at CO Exhibitions for a premiere after-party with performances by Grant Cutler, Members of Doomtree, Andrew Broder, and The Pizza Boys! Monster Drawing Rally

@ Midway Contemporary Arts
527 Second Ave. SE
Minneapolis

6 p.m. – 10 p.m. / Free

No, this is not the kind of Monster Rally that involves grotesquely oversized trucks with ill-conceived names, but rather the type that involves egregiously underpriced local art. This annual event gives local art lovers the opportunity to snap up pieces fresh out of an artist’s hands – this year for only $35! Even better, the over 60 artists produce the works live in front of an appreciative audience. It’s the very rare chance to watch some of your favorite artists at work and interact with them throughout the process. The list of participating artists is too long to share here, but you’re sure to recognize many of the names as they represent a who’s who of the local art scene. With all proceeds benefiting the non-profit Midway Contemporary Art gallery, you can feel great about your participation even if you go a little overboard with impulse purchases. Go get yourself some great art, but keep your grubby mitts off our picks!
