Doomtree: The Whole Fucking Week at First Avenue

by Robyn Lewis

Here it is folks, history in the making. Never before has a single group taken over our beloved club for an entire week. The idea seems outrageous, but we're certain no one other than Doomtree could adequately pull it off. Fresh on the heels of their most cohesive and forward-thinking record to date, the crew is ready to Occupy First Avenue for "one whole fucking week", with each of the group's MCs curating their own night in the Entry. The resulting lineups are as varied and impressive as the Doomtree members themselves - and, at a measly $7 a ticket, you'd be a damn fool not to have snatched up one of each. However, tickets still remain for select nights.

2011 has seen the gang spread its wings wider than ever. With so much lyrical variety in content and style, No Kings grants old and new fans an accessible entry point one of the most creative and inspired collections of artistic voices in modern music. This is not just another rap group, this is hip hop A-game at its finest. Doomtree fever is upon us, and we're INTO IT.

The schedule:

SIMS / Sunday, December 4th / Sold Out

One of the most anticipated nights of #occupyfirstave and one of the first to sell out, Sims kicks the week off with a major bang, recruiting Brother Ali and Astronautalis for a thrilling line up for lucky attendees.

MIKE MICTLAN / Monday, December 5th / A few tickets remain

Leave it to Mictlan to bring not only the most outrageous party, but an eclectic group of the freshest rising talent. Longtime local favorites Kill the Vultures, I Self Devine and Toki Wright will party with F. Stokes, La Manchita and Slapping Purses in a loose, improvisational mike-toss event that'll leave us sore the next day.

DESSA / Tuesday, December 6th / Sold Out

It's been an era since Dessa last played a room this small, and tickets were gone in an instant. Doomtree's vulnerable yet tough-as-nails darling continues to astound old fans while making believers out of new ones. Rounding out the chill, mid-week vibes include Crescent Moon Is In Big Trouble, I, Colossus, and stand-up comic/writer Hannibal Buress.

P.O.S. / Wednesday, December 7th / Sold Out

Wednesday sees Doomtree's proud papa lion center stage, always dazzling us with his technique and lyricism, joined by friends and bandmates Marijuana Deathsquads and Polica in an evening reminiscent of the good old Wednesday nights at Neddies. Epic!

CECIL OTTER / Thursday, December 8th / Sold Out

If the name Cecil Otter conjures an automatic "swoon" for you like it does for us, you won't want to miss this intimate soiree, featuring an out of town guest so secret, we can't even tell you who it is!

BLOWOUT VII / Friday (sold out) & Saturday (tickets available) December 9-10 / 21+ & 18+ / $15.00

The first five nights? They were just foreplay. Get ready to blow your wad as the crew pours their hearts and souls all over the Mainroom stage and then come back for seconds on Saturday for 3 hours of unadulterated bangers as our own modern day Wu-Tang Clan rip through all your fave anthems. We're sure no one in this audience will leave disappointed. Bangarang!

AFTERPARTY / Saturday December 10th / 21+ / $5

Let us all breathe a collective sigh of relief and celebrate with the crew as they complete their very own marathon of sorts, at what has become a Blowout tradition. Ain't no party like the afterparty, and this year the clan recruited the Hood Internet to take us home. It's going to be a truly special week of shows celebrating the success and the talents of our beloved Doomtree, as well as a chance for them to give something back to their dedicated friends and fans who have stuck with them every step of the way.
